On the Smidstrup Chapel's east wall is an inscribed epitath to the memoryof Mrs. Bachmann from Vellinggaard. We read: Underneath rests the dust of one who, in life, was noble and highlyhonored. Mrs. Kristine Benedichte Kruse Bachmann, now blesses heaven. She came into the world July 28, 1725, Entered into marriage on December 17, 1745 with the very nobel and highly honored, Peder Bachmann, The Royal Highness' Game Master for Fyn. In which marriage she became the mother of 3 sons And 4 daughters, of which 2 sons and 2 daughters died before their blessed mother. A death for "Benoni" caused That this Rachel had to pay the debt of nature on October 8, 1755. Her fear of God...her intellect...her piety, Courteous and lovely, she did her duty Beautifully toward God, beautifully to strangers, beloved by her children, Unequaled by her husband as his deeply loved spouse Who as a memory of affection has placed this stone. (The reference to Benoni and Rachel refers to Genesis 35:18-19)
