Information from Phil Elliott: Phillip went west to Missouri in 1833 with his father, sister Elizabeth, wife and infant daughter, Susan. Within a short time after their arrival in Washington County, his wife, Susan Kate Baker bore him a son, William Smith Jackson on Jan. 1, 1834. Philip Jackson's sister, Elizabeth, married Richard Marshall, a choice she no doubt came to regret. Marshall was known as generally quarrelsome and was regarded as a dangerous man in the community. On Nov. 27, 1863, Marshall killed a man named David Moses Baker. Philip's son, William Smith Jackson, then 29 years old and serving as the local marshall, arrested his uncle for the murder. Marshall was tried in May, 1864 and sentenced to hang July 9. This sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and after some time was pardoned to join the Army. While in prison Marshall advised another "not to take anything off that Smith Jackson nor David Baker" (presumably a relative of Moses Baker, for whose murder he was imprisoned). Note: In 1867 Marshall returned to Washington Co., made threats and was killed by Smith Jackson. Information by: IRENE N HAMILTON 427 MARTIN APT 33 CHANDLER TX 75758
