William Harrod was born at the site of now Louisville, KY. He was the first white child born there that survived the severe winter and lived to adulthod. He died at his home in Scott Co, Indiana and was buried at the Friendship Cemetery. The cemetery became covered with brush, S. B. Harrod moved their remains [3 bodies] to the Harrod Cemetery. Wiliam was born in the old fort at the "G reat Falls of the Ohio". Louisville, prior to 1780, was in Kentucky Co, VA.   Kentucky Marriages to 1850 Harrod, William married New, Betsey on 15 Apr 1810 in Gallatin County, Ke ntucky   Colonial Families of America, Volume VIII, 1931; Page 321 WILLIAM HARROD, son of Captain William Harrod and Amelia (Stephens) Harrod, was born May 22, 1775 or 1779 in the o ld fort at the "Great Falls of the Ohio," where Louisville is now located. he was reputed to have been the first white child born in the settlement, and hence the first born in Louisville. Died, Janua ry 28, 1855, in Indiana. Married Elizabeth New.
CONFLICT:There are some serious doubts as to whether William Harrod who married Elizabeth New is actually the son of James Noel Harrod and Elizabeth Stewart. Some researchers believe he is the son of William Harrod and Amelia Stephens.   BIRTH: 1)"Harrod Genealogy" by William R. Anthony, 1956, p. 17: "...William Harrod, who was born May 22, 1779, on the site of Louisville, KY , founded in April 1779, by a Committee headed by Captain William Harrod, in whose Military Supply Camp our William Harrod was born, and was named for Captain William Harrod for kindness he showed the parents of our ancestor, William Harrod." 2)CONFLICT: «i»Colonial Families of America,«/i» Vol. VIII, p. 321, 1931, states that "William Harrod, son of Captain William Harrod and Amelia (Stephen s) Harrod, was born May 22, 1775 or 1779 in the old fort at the `Great Falls of the Ohio,' where Louisville is now located. He was reputed to have been the first white child born in the settlement, a nd hence the first born in Louisville. Died, January 28, 1855, in Indiana. Married Elizabeth New." On 5-13-1845, PC 329, 330, 331, Samuel Harrod, admr., petitions for partition and assignment of dower in which it appears that widow, Elizabeth, is to receive her one third portion and that petitioner and others will receive one tenth of the remainder each. They are as follows: Samuel Harrod, Isaac H arrod, Malinda Babbitt (consort of Stephen), Huldah Wiggam (consort of Andrew), Jeptha Harrod, Sanford Harrod, Allen Harrod and William G. Harrod. Also, together in common, Hugh C. Rodman, Elizabeth Rodman and Malinda Rodman are to share one tenth. Also, William Harrod, Emily Harrod and Jesse Harrod will together share one tenth."
