- In the 1860 US Federal Census for Jennings, Scott, Indiana, 37-year old William G Harrod is a well-to-do farmer with real estate worth $4,200 and personal property worth $600. HARROD SCHOOL HOUSE
Eugene McCaslin’s child was buried at the Harrod grave yard last Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
In the 1900 US Federal Census for Jackson, Jackson, Indiana, 43-year old Eugene and 40-year old Flora [Florida] have been married 17 years. They and their children, 6-year old Pauline and 1-year old Clifford Harrod, are living at 209 St Louis Avenue. Florida has borne three children but only two are living.
In the 1910 US Federal Census for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, 53-year old Eugene P and his wife, 60-year old Florra [Florida] are living at 24 Blington (?) Avenue with their children, 16-year old Pauline and 11-year old Harod [Clifford Harrod]. This census states that Florida has borne two children and both are living which does not agree with the 1900 census information and is incorrect.
On 12 Sep 1918, when Clifford registered for the WW I draft, he gave his permanent address as his mother's house at 148 E 23 Street, 12 Salisbury Apartments, Portland, Oregon.
Florida has probably divorced or separated from Eugene before 1920 as they are not living together as recorded in the 1920 for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, on which Eugene is listed as a widower. In fact, Flora is living in San Francisco, San Francisco In the household of her nephew and niece 54-year old Iowa-born Edward S and his 46-year old Indiana-born wife Roberta [Cruson] Rohr. Also in this household are Flora’s daughter, 24-year old Indiana-born Pauline [McCaslin} Langley and Pauline’s husband 22-year old Indiana-born Walter Langley. The household is living in a rented house on Leavenworth Street. Edward is a salesman for a printer, Flora is a practical nurse, Pauline is a stenographer, and Walter is a coppersmith.
In the 1930 US Federal Census for Oakland, Alameda, California, 35-year old Walter A Langley, his 36-year old wife Pauline McCaslin Langley, their two children, 8-year old Jean Langley and 4 year 3 month old Norman Langley, and her mother 70-year old Florra [Florida Harrod] McCaslin are living in a rented house at 4864 Park Boulevard. Walter was 26 and Pauline 27 when they married indicating that they married about 1921.
The California Death Index for 1930-1939, page 4436, gives Florida’s information as Florra H McCaslin, death certificate 40331.
