2207 I103219  Baden  Torkil  27 jul. 1765  9 feb.

!B Figured from age at marriage. Place listed on Trostrup Korup 1855 Census, FHL 39,422. 1809 calc. from mar., 1810 calc. from birth. She would have missed the 1860 census! Calculated age from 1850 census (FHL 39,344, Odense, Lunde, Lunde, Beldringe, house 89) puts her birth at 1812 (38 in 1850), though this is later than her marriage record. No further illumination on her birth place here either. Only København listed.

M Garnisons parish records, FHL 44,380, p. 621. Sealing Batch #M218559;2604.

D Odense marriage and death index, FHL 517,605, under BAHN. The parish is listed only as 'g.' It is actually Gråbrødre Hospital, Odense, FHL 50,328.

Bur Same.

!NOTES/LOG:

-- Will figure out where she was born soon. Have a listing of all parishes in Copenhagen. Probably more than half of them have indexes in some form. If don't find her, don't give up totally; it may simply be that she was not entered in an index - 4 Jan 1998, SRE.

-- ALSO, A NEW BIG COMPUTER DATABASE OF ALL DANISH CENSUSES FROM 1787 TO 1916 ARE BEING DATA ENTERED. CHECK PERIODICALLY FOR ALL "BAGGE" HEADS OF HOUSEHOLD IN COPENHAGEN. ALSO, NEW VITAL RECORDS CD PUT OUT BY CHURCH HAS SOME COPENHAGEN PARISH INDEXED FOR PROPER TIME PERIOD. ELIMINATE ALL INDEXES AVAILABLE (both computerized and otherwise) AND LOOK UNDER OTHER PARISHES - 3 Jun 2000, SRE.

-- Check Gentofte. Check Garnisons first, since that is where she married. Mother possibly born a bit earlier than 1787.

-- IN NEW OI (IGI) Feb 1997 addendum, FHL 184,116, p. 835, ord # 23293, SLAKE, SP is listed as Pre-1970. This work was done by Alice Hermine FRANKLIN. Could it be she knew the parents' names? They are not listed in the OI, however!, though Pre-1970 does indicate that possibly the work was done for SP.

-- Because of a note written by Lynda Robinson, it would seem Hermine Benedicte Bahn was born into a higher-society type of family. Maybe this could narrow the search for this person.

-- Begin summer 2002 looking for her birth in Copenhagen. Will start from castle and surrounding areas. Many parishes are indexed. Next will be looking for Frederik Henrick Bahn (or simultaneously, where possible) - SRE, 11 May 2002.

-- Searched test version of IGI 22 Jul 2002, but didn't find anything -- SRE, 23 Jul 2002.

-- Searched Copenhagen city and surrounding parishes for her birth as follows: from 1806-1813: Frederiksberg, Helligånds, Vor Frelser, Garnison, Frederiks tyske (indexes only), Skt. Petri (index only), Gentofte; 1806-1812: Hof- og Slotkirken, Vartov, Holmen; 1807-1811: Vor Frue, Trinitatis; 1806-1815: Lyngby. Those to check still might include Hvidovre, Citadel, Brønshøj, Rødovre, Gladaske, Brøndbyøster, Tårnby. Additionally, institution parishes may be checked: Børnehuset, Abel Catrines Stiftelse, Skt. Hans Hospital, Vajsenhuset (orphans), Ladegården (mental hospital since 1768), Søkvæsthuset (naval hospital), Vartov hospital menighed (Helligånds hospital), Opfostringhuset (orphanage), Fødselsstiftelsen (unwed mother's hospital), Frederiks Hospital, Christains Plajehus, Det civile Arresthus (prison), and Almindelig Hospital. According to her marriage certificate, she lived at Akademigade #231. This is now a stretch of Fredericiagade (between Bredgade to Store Kongensgade), and has been since 1869 (see http://homeb.inet.tele.dk/flemclarA/Kvarterer.html). This area was formerly in Garnison parish (see http://www.horlacher.org/denmark/copenh/copstr.htm). This is the same parish they were married in. Only problem is there are no moving in and out records for Garnison parish. This could lead us to her previous parish, if it existed. Husband, Johan David Bahn was living in Frederiksdal. One of the witnesses was from same place. Other one was a military officer, and doesn't list locality, but rather "King's regiment". Anything possible here? Also have checked Lyngby parish (the one where they both moved to right after marriage and had two kids) for Anna's birth, but no luck. Interestingly, this is close to Frederiksdal, where JDB lived at time of marriage - SRE, 13 Feb 2003.

-- On the marriage of JDB and AMB, there are two witnesses, both seem to be quite upper class. One is from Frederiksdal in Lyngby parish (where Johan David Bahn is from, according to marriage certificate). The other is a Captain in the King's Regiment, C. C. Schultz. If I could find out where he was based, that might help me know where AMB is from; don't know. We actually do know where she was from when she was married (Garnison), but don't have any moving in or out records for that parish to give us any further clues. Maybe I should look for the death of Bagge's in that parish and check probates of them, to see if AMB is mentioned. So I can check the institutional parishes in Copenhagen for her birth, as well as wills for Trøstrup Korup, Odense (if that's where she lived when she died). If JDB married again after her death, there would have had to be a probate by law, because of such young kids (the youngest was five). And it's still fairly likely she would have had a will in any case. Even though TK is so small, it is part of five or six estate jurisdictions, so I have that many sets of records to search. Also, they may have moved back to Lunde or even been living in Odense at the time she died, so it's hard to know where to check. I checked the index for TK and didn't find JDB there again, either moving out, dying, or marrying again. Also looked at births of kids to see places where witnesses were from. All localities were either in Lyngby or Gentofte parishes (e.g., Frederiksdal, Orderup). Maybe Bagge could be checked for death and will in these two parishes, as well -- SRE, 2-26-03.

-- Still need to check some things in the following order:

- Check illegitimtate birth films for Garnison parish, FHL 44365. Also, for Danish births, there are two films. Not sure if they overlap. Tried looking in 44363 already, no results, but try 44634, which is the other film.

- Check confirmations for AMB beginning 1823 in Gentofte parish (when she was about 14 years old). 44373 contains German confirmations 1814-1851, so covers the time period. Cover from around 1821-1828, though. For Danish confirmations, see 44388 (1807-1834). There is a general film, apparently without regard to ethnicity on 44378 (1805-1858). Check all of these.

- Check institution parishes in Copenhagen not yet checked, especially unwed mothers parish.

- Will check wills for different estate jurisdictions that were part of Trøstrup Korup. This is a bit more tricky. Of the seven different jurisdictions that covered this area, we only have films for two of the "gods": Dallund gods, and of that, only a part: Registerprotokol for Lunde og Skam herreder med register, 1852-1912, FHL 49962 (item 1?); and Harritslevgård gods: Skifteprotokoller med register 1835-1871, FHL 49988.

- Check wills for Odense city.

- Continue checking DDD database.

- Find out more about C.C. Schultz, captain of the King's regiment, and where he was physically located.

SRE, 1 Mar 2003.

-- Found her in IGI yesterday. Looks like submitter lives in LA area. No info on submitter. See also notes of father. Not sure of exact parish. Though exact birth/chr. dates were given, no parish is given. Fastest way to find will probably be to search Copenhagen parishes under AMB's exact christening date until found. Search city parishes first, then surrounding area, SRE 4 Nov 2003.

-- Made a breakthrough today. Ran several searches on this family. While doing a parent search (Herman Baggesen, Kirstsine Pedersen), found two families, one submitted by family member in California; the other extracted. The extracted family listed Hermandsen as surname, the family member Baggesen. Definitely the same family. I must have missed this in going through those records before, which I did last year. This was around the time that especially people in cities and upper class were switching to fixed surnames. We have another relative who switched about the same time: cf. Thor Gundersen -> Gunder Gundersen. It's now possible to work on this family more. , SRE 4 Nov 2003.
